The Sketchbooks of Joachim Robert

1731847_ce02c580f1_o

Our friend Joachim is embarking on a round-the-world voyage and has opened a blog to begin sharing his experiences.

"The sketchbooks I wanted to tell about are those I realised during my studies. My school was the ECV Aquitaine, and my big sister gave me a sketchbook, I don’t remember for what occasion it was. The sketchbook was a Moleskine, you know, one of these little black books with mole-skin (not really) cover on the outside, a creamy paper inside and an oh-so-romantic-but-a-bit-exagerated history wrapped all around… The gift fell just right, because I began to do things in that sketchbook, and the more I did things, the more I needed it..."

Mark Dwight's Moleskine Clear Window Hack

3661711942_709906ffb9
Mark Dwight shares a snap of his latest project at his FLICKR page.

"Sent off my Clear Window Hack submission to Hong Kong for the My Moleskine 2.0 Competition. Already won 3 Moleskine notebooks, and now in the running for a lifetime supply of Moleskine journals! (max 6 per year -- which is barely enough for me)...."

Stealth Moleskine Map

Ever tried unfolding a map in an unfamilar city? Ben Light's Moleskine hack helps solve the problem.

"I entered the Moleskin 2.0 Exhibition contest. My idea is to use the fore-edge of the notebook. When you fold the notebook length-wise (when the spine practically touches the long edge of the back cover), the fore-edge of the pages fan out. Only when the notebook is folded this way, does a subway map clearly appear. This is due to the fact that the map is printed on the edge while the notebook is positioned like this. You can hide the fact that you are consulting a subway map and be spared the embarrassment and scorn from locals...."

Keri Smith's "little black book"

Xxrte

Keri Smith's post on her new favorite thing:

" I have always been a big advocate of the "one book" for everything, and I still am. But while browsing in a bookstore I found these tiny little moleskins and decided to conduct an experiment. These books are so small they fit in all my pockets so I can bring them everywhere without having to lug around my heavy journal...."

In these days of downsizing, these my favorites.

Update: Andrea Joseph

Garrucha

From our friend Andrea Joseph, one great big celebration of the Moleskine on her blog:

"I thought I'd condense this travel themed Moleskine down to one post, so that it's not dominating the main page of my blog. Instead of cutting it down, however, I've just ended up doing a big huge Moley post. But, what's wrong with a bit of Moleskine love between consenting adults, eh?

The most frequently asked question from visitors to my blog, who are not part of the drawing community, is what is a Moleskine? ..." [

A smile-enducing series of scans from the notebook of Mattias Adolfsson's portfolio at Behance Network.

From his website:

"Freelance Illustrator living in Sweden with Wife and two daughters. My pen is a Namiki Falcon fountain pen, with this I use American eel from noodlers ink, for coloring I use Watercolors..."

Discussion: What's on the cover of your CAHIER?

2118624076_1b4e9c2254

Crystal24 asked over at our Moleskinerie/FLICKR group:

"I know there are discussions about what's on the covers of people's moleskines, but I'd like to know what people who use cahiers regularly grace the cover of them with?

Also for people who use cahiers as to-do lists, etc. Do these get thrown away after or kept and does that impact what you put on the cover of them? .."

One of the responses, from Champignon came with a fascinating example (above).

Moleskine: The perfect sidekick

DSC02357

DSC02358

jekkvalle, b. 1993:

"Computers were already around and I grew up with the convenience of the internet, mobile phone and IM. Everything and everyone were accessible anytime and anywhere. But along the way we lost our love for doing things on paper and everywhere you look everything is going digital. Books are turned into those iReads, letters are turned into emails, newspapers are slowly and sadly diminishing and the good old journals are now blogs. Before I met the Moleskine, I was in the bandwagon for digital, but that little black book, with beautiful yellowy paper and a simple, clean design, sparked my dormant paper fetish. And now I'm a Moleskine addict..."

The first line got me wistfully thinking of simpler times when spam meant something canned.
